This workshop will provide basic background on the topic as well as focus on how you can develop innovative and practical ways to serve the baby boomers, older adults and the elderly, now and in the future both in your library and in the community.

Intended Audience:

Adult Services, Reference and Circulation staff who plan and present programming activities for adults, older adults and the elderly Outreach and bookmobile staff, Administrators developing methods to provide more programming for these generations, Library Trustees who developing Strategic and Long-range Plans Key Benefits for Participants  Participants will understand the different library needs of the 3 generations of older adults  Participants will understand the marketing, programmatic, and collection development advantage in developing a senior space in their library  Participants will understand the advantages of developing programs and services for older adults that involve their customer  Participants will understand how “technology and gaming can enhance library service to older adults of all ages Key Topics to be Explored  Demographics  ALA Guidelines for Library & Information Services to Older Adults  Developing and designing “Senior Spaces”  Collection Development  Programming  Technology & Gaming  Marketing & Public Relations
