Description:

Adding access points is the second step in creating a bibliographic record. When you choose and correctly format the main and added entries in a bibliographic record, patrons are able to retrieve sources from your catalog and see what the library owns by different authors. This one-day class covers the rules for access points from the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition, 2002 Revision, focusing on chapters 21, 22, 23 and 24. Hands-on exercises using AACR2 are included.

Prerequisites:

This class can be taken alone, but it is recommended that it be taken with Cataloging Basics: Description.

Notes:

Students should bring a copy of Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, second edition, 2002 revision, to the class. The class touches on, but does not emphasize, the MARC format. For MARC classes, please see Introduction to the Authority File, Interpreting the MARC Record and the online Basic MARC Tagging classes.
