This two-hour hour live online class introduces students to RFID — a rapidly developing technology for controlling inventory, offering self-check and automating materials handling — is currently a hot topic in the library community.

Description:

During this two-hour class, students will have a chance to find out more about RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, discuss it with others and get in on the ground floor of creating a potentially powerful tool for your library. The class is also an opportunity to learn about some public concerns over privacy and health issues, discover which vendors offer solutions and learn from libraries that have successfully implemented it and how.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand RFID technology and standards
  • Recognize the advantages and disadvantages of RFID Comprehend the various privacy concerns around the technology
  • Become familiar with some of the vendors offering RFID services

This class is targeted to those who would like to know more about this emerging technology. Also anyone who considers themselves the stakeholders and decision-makers in libraries are encouraged to attend.
