Attendees From Across New England Gather at Public Library Symposium
On December 4th, LYRASIS hosted a Public Library Symposium at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA. The event brought together over 70 librarians from public libraries throughout New England.
Maureen Ambrosino, youth services consultant & 2009 Library Journal "Mover and Shaker," kicked things off with "Whose Job Is It Anyway? Library Advocacy from the Frontlines," addressing the need for ALL library staff to get involved in advocacy and providing tools and resources to foster successful efforts. David Dowell, formerly with Cuesta College, gave an informative session on a new library staff certification program. Liz Doucette, author of Creating Your Library Brand, engaged the audience with a riveting presentation on branding. One attendee commented, "Liz made it (branding) seem both important and doable."
The team of Stephen Spohn, LYRASIS consultant, and Jane Hultberg, College of the Atlantic, closed out the day, sharing their adventures in the world of social media and demonstrating how to create custom Facebook pages. To view speaker presentations from the Public Library Symposium, click here.
The Public Library Symposium is one of a series of LYRASIS Affinity Group events focusing on specific subject areas or interest groups that members have requested, including open source, reference, and cataloging. LYRASIS News will keep you up-to-date on new events coming soon. |
Special Announcement Regarding LYRASIS Annual Meeting
The founding organizations of LYRASIS have traditionally held annual meetings for their respective memberships. However, with current economic conditions, we are sympathetic to the limitations experienced by many of our members and are committed to reaching out in a more local manner to not only help to defray travel costs but to also personally connect with members and support networking in their specific regions. To accomplish this, we are hosting in-person Member Forums in every state in our membership. In addition, LYRASIS is holding regional conferences focusing on specific subject areas that members have requested including Open Source, reference, public libraries, and cataloging. We advertise these conferences and Member Forums in our weekly newsletter and on the LYRASIS website. Please look for a meeting near you. It is our hope that in the future we will be able to hold a LYRASIS annual meeting and as economic realities improve we will be polling members to determine interest. |
Meet with LYRASIS' Elaine Roegge, Meryl Cinnamon, and Laurie Gemmill for the latest in new programs, educational opportunities, products, and membership benefits. To register for this free meeting, click here.

66 Members Join New LYRA Resource Sharing Group
Launched on November 9, 2009, the new LYRA Resource Sharing Group already has 66 members from all LYRASIS regions.
