Featured NEW Class!
Preservation metadata is information that supports and documents the digital preservation process, including ownership, authenticity, rights, and preservation activities. In short, preservation metadata makes digital objects self-documenting across time. The PREMIS (Preservation Metadata: Implementation Strategies) Data Dictionary describes a core set of preservation metadata elements and guidelines for implementation. The new live online class, Introduction to PREMIS, covers overview, history, and implementation of the standard and explores ways that PREMIS may fit into your institution's preservation strategy.
For more information, click here to visit the Library of Congress's PREMIS site. To register for the class, click here.

First New England Member Joins Mass Digitization Collaborative
College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine is the first New England member to join the LYRASIS Mass Digitization Collaborative. Jane Hultberg, director of the college's Thorndike Library, said:
"We are delighted to be working with LYRASIS to digitize materials, primarily from our archives. As a small college with limited staffing, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to participate in this well-planned, professional digitization program at a cost we can afford."
