Preservation
The mission of Preservation Services is to improve institutions' abilities to maintain long-term, cost-effective access to information resources in both traditional and networked collections. This program is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access.
To accomplish our goal, LYRASIS provides:
- Continuing education and training on a variety of preservation topics. Find the complete LYRASIS class schedule here.
- Information and referral service free of charge to an international audience.
- Disaster assistance by phone or email 24-hours a day.
- Free publications that provide information on protecting and conserving library and archival collections.
- Environmental equipment Loan Service available for use.
- Consulting services are available to assist institutions with specific concerns, such as environmental problems or binding/repair programs, as well as for general needs assessment and program planning.
- Presentations are offered for friends groups, conferences, library and information science students, and special events, and cover topics such as proper exhibit and display techniques, and preserving family treasures. Program focus and formats may be tailored to audience interest.
