During this self-paced class, students will be introduced to the MARC record, its formats and structure and its use in many different systems.

Description:

Come learn why MARC is the foundation for all library catalogs. During this self-paced class, students will be introduced to the MARC record, its formats and structure and its use in many different systems. The class consists of lecture, demonstration and exercises. Topics include history of the MARC format, applications of the MARC record, the fixed and variable fields, differences among record formats and which fields can be searched and how. During the last week of class a live online session will be held for a questions and answering session.

Intended Audience: Paraprofessional and professional staff in acquisitions, cataloging, interlibrary loan and reference.
