Natural disasters, local emergencies, and other disruptive events can have devastating effects on all sizes of performing arts organizations. This webinar will focus on mitigating risks at institutions, to prevent disasters from happening and to reduce the impact of unavoidable disasters. The session will clarify the need for risk assessment as a part of an organization’s disaster preparedness strategy, provide basic information on risk assessment tools and practices, and address how risk assessment can benefit performing arts organizations. The instructor will also present case studies as a part of the session, so participants can learn from actual disasters in performing arts organizations.
Instructor: Annie Peterson
Annie Peterson is a Preservation Services Librarian at LYRASIS. Before joining LYRASIS, Annie Peterson was the Preservation Librarian for the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library at Tulane University. She has an MLIS from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. She has a range of experience in preservation and conservation that provides a strong base for helping the archives, historical societies, libraries and museums that we reach through the Preservation Field Services project. She is active in the American Library Association and is the Chair of the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services Preservation and Reformatting Section. In 2016 Annie was awarded the Esther J. Piercy Award from ALCTS, an award that is given to recognize the contribution to areas of librarianship included in library collections and technical service by a librarian who has shown outstanding promise for continuing contribution and leadership.
Instructor: Frances Harrell
Frances Harrell is the Senior Preservation Specialist at the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC). Along with providing training and consultations, Frances serves as the co-chair of the American Library Association’s Preservation Outreach Committee, and is the outgoing chair of the Preservation Section of the Society of American Archivists. She is the project manager for NEDCC’s “Digital Assessment Training: Building a Framework, Building a Community,” funded by a grant from The National Endowment for the Humanities. The project will present a collaborative digital assessment training program, which will approach digital preservation and training through case-study assessments, shadowing opportunities, workshops, and a Digital Assessment Institute. She received an MLIS from Simmons College GSLIS and a BA in English Literature from the University of Florida, and has worked in both development and collections management.
