Description:

This session will teach participants the fundamentals of project management, how to apply the theories, and tools that can be applied in GLAM institutions. The instructor will cover the basic stages of a project’s lifecycle and considerations for the beginning a project, project management styles, applying documentation, and project communication. She will provide some examples of tools that can assist with managing single or multiple projects and discuss the application of these tools at an institution. She will conclude by discussing the application of documentation, tools, and other considerations for a few examples of projects including digitization, service development, and archival description. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions at the end of the course and can come with specific cases in mind.

Instructor: Robin Pike

Robin Pike is the Manager, Digital Conversion and Media Reformatting at the University of Maryland, managing digitization and digital conversion operations across the seven College Park Libraries since February 2012. She manages a portfolio including large and complex digitization and other digital projects. She has been a Co-Principle Investigator for an NEH National Digital Newspaper Program grant for four years, and other grants funded by the NEH and CLIR. Robin previously worked as the Audiovisual Archivist at The Catholic University of America, managing the acquisition, description, preservation, and digitization of photographic and audiovisual media for four years. She graduated in 2007 from the University of Pittsburgh with an MLIS, specializing in Archives and Records Management. Robin is an ACA Certified Archivist and holds the Digital Archivist Specialist certificate from SAA. She has written and presented about managing audiovisual collections and digitization projects. She currently serves as the Steering Committee Chair of the Digital Library Federation Project Managers Group.
