Kanopy BASE Streaming Video

Vendor: Kanopy Inc.

Kanopy BASE (Bundled Academic Subscription for Education) is a new streaming video database now available through Lyrasis. This database is now available for subscriptions through Lyrasis (custom flyer with details and introductory webinar from December 2022). This is a new and hopefully beneficial model with predictable costs, distinct from Kanopy’s previous models and market practices.

Product & Offer Details

Kanopy BASE's annual subscription model provides users at academic institutions unlimited access to nearly 10,000 film titles for one flat price. Around 55% of the titles are exclusive to Kanopy, and around 50% of the titles come with public performance rights (PPR). You can screen films with PPR as part of any group programming that doesn't charge admission. View the KBASE title list for details on film titles, studios, filmmakers, subject area coverage, public performance rights, languages, and more. This resource is multidisciplinary, supporting the arts and humanities as well as STEM disciplines. Titles are accessed through Kanopy's platform, and nearly all the titles come with closed captioning.

Lyrasis has negotiated a special discount (10% net discount off list price) for new subscribers that are Lyrasis members. If a library is a Kanopy customer but not a Kanopy BASE customer, the library is still eligible for the discount. There is no deadline to take advantage of this offer. Note that Kanopy does not offer discounts for libraries ordering Kanopy BASE outside of consortia like Lyrasis.

More information is available at Kanopy BASE Streaming Video

Kanopy BASE is available for 12-month annual subscriptions by academic libraries. Multiyear deals or perpetual rights are not available for this resource, though many of the films may be available for individual purchase from Kanopy. Kanopy does not license individual film titles or its Patron-Driven Acquisition model via consortia.

Lyrasis has negotiated a central license with the best possible terms. Participating institutions placing new orders will be asked to agree to abide by the terms at that time.
