Social Explorer

Transform dry data into compelling visuals! Social Explorer is a user-friendly web-based mapping and data visualization program that enables users to create interactive charts and maps, downloadable reports, and presentations from a wide range of national and international survey sources.

Through Social Explorer, researchers gain access to more than 40 billion elements of current and historical data, including the complete U.S. Census from 1790 to the present, the American Community Survey, the FBI Uniform Crime Report, the Religious Congregations and Membership Study, County Health Rankings and Roadmaps Program data, and U.S. business patterns. While Social Explorer’s focus is on the United States, international data from the UK, Canada, Eurostat, and World Development Indicators are represented. Users can explore hundreds of thousands of built-in data indicators related to U.S. demographics, the economy, health, elections, poverty, crime, the environment, and more. Users can also import and visualize their own datasets.

Teaching with Social Explorer renders the learning process more interactive and engaging. Social Explorer enriches research and coursework in subjects such as sociology, geography, criminal justice, political science, business, economics, urban studies and planning, and journalism.
