LYRASIS continually strives to find creative opportunities for our diverse membership to support Open Access (OA) publishing efforts that meaningfully align with their respective missions.

LYRASIS has negotiated an opportunity to support the fully OA ebook publishing of content at Springer Nature and possibly other future publishing partners that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Goals are an urgent call to action for all countries to ensure peace and prosperity for all people and the planet into the future.

LYRASIS is currently collecting funds to publish forthcoming OA ebooks in the SDG Series that align with at least one or more of the following five SDGs:
  • SDG5: Gender and Equality
  • SDG9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
  • SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG13: Climate Change
  • SDG16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions


As of June 2021, due to the investment of more than 30 libraries, the following five forthcoming titles published by Springer Nature will be available fully OA:
  • A Climate of Justice: An Ethical Foundation for Environmentalism, Marvin T. Brown, University of San Francisco, US
  • Police Code of Silence in Times of Change, Kutnjak Ivkovic et al., Michigan State University, US
  • Equity Policies in Global Higher Education, Orlanda Tavares et al., University of Porto, Portugal
  • Towards Gender Equality in Law, Gizem Guney et al., University of Portsmouth, UK
  • Education for Sustaining Peace through Historical Memory, Markus Schultze-Kraft, Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research, Germany
