ProQuest Alexander Street Black Women Writers

Vendor: ProQuest

Black Women Writers presents 100,000 pages of literature and essays by African authors documenting the effort of black women to create their own identity while facing sexism and racism.

This collection began in the 18th century and encompasses writers through the 1960's that discuss womanism, black feminism and related topics. Many of the writings have been hidden in rare and hard to find texts, obscure typewritten documents, photocopied journals, and other fugitive sources. The writings present the woman’s perspective on the diversity and development of black people generally, and in particular the works document the evolution of black feminism.
