As a service to our members, LYRASIS administers a variety of OCLC
Resource Sharing Groups to assist libraries and cultural heritage
organizations in finding opportunities to borrow materials for free
from other LYRASIS member libraries.
There are two resource sharing groups that have a regional focus, and
two that are general resource sharing groups.
If you
qualify for and would like to participate in one or more of the following
resource sharing groups, please contact Member Support via email or by
phone at 1.800.999.8558.
Regional Groups
SOLINE (SL#N)
SOLINE is regional to the Southeastern region of the US (GA, FL, KY,
SC, NC, LA, MS, TN, VA, AL), as well as Indiana, Puerto Rico, and the
Virgin Islands. LYRASIS members in those states can join the SOLINE
group and borrow returnable items from other SOLINE members at no
charge to other SOLINE members.
SOLINE Terms
No Bucks (NO$$)
No Bucks is a group of libraries in the Northeast that agree to lend RETURNABLE
AND non-returnable items to one another for free. It is a group formed by legacy
NELINET members. LYRASIS members in legacy NELINET states may join No Bucks.
General Groups
LYRA (LYRA)
LYRA is a resource sharing group formed after the merger of NELINET,
PALINET and SOLINET. Any LYRASIS member institution may join LYRA. LYRA
members agree to lend returnable items at no charge to other LYRA
members.

SO6 (SIXX)
SO6 is a subgroup formed by members of SOLINE, No Bucks and LYRA. This
resource sharing group is composed of libraries that agree to share
photocopies of non-returnable materials (articles) with other libraries
at no charge. In order to join SO6, a LYRASIS member institution must
participate in at least one of the other resource sharing groups (LYRA,
SOLINE or No Bucks).

SOLINE Terms of Membership
Membership in this program is available to those LYRASIS member
libraries that are:
Libraries that join SoLINE independently of their state networks are
required to contribute their current cataloging to the WorldCat
database and to supply material over the OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing
service.
This is a voluntary agreement to govern resource sharing between
participants in SoLINE. The program is limited to only those resource
sharing requests that are transmitted using the OCLC WorldCat Resource
Sharing service.
I. Definitions
Resource sharing transactions are requests submitted using the
OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing service, in which library materials are
made available to a borrowing library via a lending library. Requests
for material using ALA forms, Telefacsimile or any other mode of
transmission other than OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing do not fall
under the scope of this program.
The use of the word "libraries" in this document includes
libraries of all types. This includes public, academic, special,
learning resource centers, and school libraries.
II. Scope
Loan of material consistent with the lending library's customary
circulation policies can be requested through this program.
Participating libraries will enter a statement of their resource
sharing policies in the OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing Policies
Directory
III. Responsibility of Borrowing Libraries
Libraries agree to evaluate all requests to determine if they are
appropriate for resource sharing.
Libraries participating in SoLINE should exhaust their local and
state resources before requesting material from libraries in other
states.
Libraries agree to transmit their resource sharing requests using
the OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing service.
Libraries agree to follow the program's protocols and make every
effort to facilitate fair and equitable distribution of the resource
sharing workload.
Libraries agree that this program does not relieve them from the
responsibility of developing their own collections. Each participating
library should provide the resources to meet the ordinary
informational, research, educational and instructional needs of its
patrons.
Libraries agree that they are responsible for the requested
material from the time the material leaves the lending library until
the material is returned to the lending library. If damage or loss
occurs, the borrowing library must meet all costs of repair or
replacement, in accordance with the preference of the lending library.
Borrowing and lending libraries are responsible for compliance
with the copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) and its accompanying
guidelines. An indication of compliance must be provided by the
borrowing library on all photocopy requests.
Borrowing libraries must comply with the conditions of loan
established by the lending libraries. All material is subject to
immediate recall.
Libraries agree to place "SoLINE" in the borrowing notes field of
a request. This allows other libraries participating in the program to
easily identity the request as one which falls into this program.
IV. Responsibility of Lending Libraries
SoLINE libraries should practice as liberal and unrestrictive a
lending policy as possible, with consideration to the interest of its
primary clientele.
A lending library is responsible for informing any borrowing
library of its apparent failure to follow this code or the protocols.
V. Responsibility of LYRASIS
LYRASIS will manage and market the SoLINE program, seek member input
for evaluation of the program, generate reports, and prepare
recommendations for changes and enhancements.
VI. Expenses
Borrowing libraries are responsible for costs of lost and damaged
materials.
Participants in this program agree not to charge for the
following:
Material loaned through this program.
Fees for handling resource sharing requests.
Postage for transportation charges. Lending libraries will pay
for materials being sent to the borrower; borrowing libraries will pay
costs of returning materials to the lending library.
Insurance
Participants are encouraged to provide free photocopies
LYRA Terms of Membership
Membership in this program is available to those LYRASIS members that
are full OCLC participants and are supplier libraries on the OCLC ILL
service.
This is a voluntary agreement to govern resource sharing among the
libraries in the LYRASIS region that are participants in LYRA. The
program is limited to only those requests that are transmitted using
the OCLC ILL service.
I. Definitions
Interlibrary loans are transactions that are transmitted using the OCLC
ILL service, in which library materials are made available by one
library to another upon request. Requests for materials via ALA forms,
fax or any other mode of transmission other than the OCLC ILL service
do not fall under the scope of this program.
The use of the word "libraries" in this document includes libraries of
all types.
II. Scope
Loan of material consistent with the lending library's customary
circulation policies can be requested through this program.
Participating libraries will enter a statement of their
interlibrary loan policies into OCLC's online policies directory.
III. Responsibility of Borrowing Libraries
Libraries agree to evaluate all requests to determine if they are
appropriate for interlibrary loan.
Libraries will exhaust their local and state resources before
requesting material from libraries in other states.
Libraries agree to follow the program's protocols and make every
effort to facilitate fair and equitable distribution of the
interlibrary loan workload.
Libraries agree that this program does not relieve them of the
responsibility of developing their own collections. Each library will
provide the resources to meet ordinary informational, research,
education, and instructional needs of its patrons.
Libraries agree they will be responsible for the requested
material from the time the material leaves the lending library until
the material is returned to the lending library. If damage or loss
occurs, the borrowing library must meet all costs of repair or
replacement, in accordance with the preference of the lending library.
Borrowing and lending libraries are responsible for compliance
with the copyright law (Title 17, U.S. Code) and its accompanying
guidelines. An indication of compliance must be provided on all
photocopy requests.
Libraries must comply with the conditions of loan established by
the lending library. All material is subject to recall.
Libraries agree to place "SOLINE" in the borrowing notes field.
This will allow other libraries participating in the program to easily
identity the request as one that falls into this program.
IV. Responsibility of Lending Libraries
Lending libraries will practice as liberal and unrestrictive a
policy of LYRA lending as possible while giving fair consideration to
the interests of its primary clientele.
Lending libraries are responsible for informing any borrowing
library of its apparent failure to follow this program. If the problem
is not corrected, it is the lending library's responsibility to notify
LYRASIS of the violation.
V. Responsibility of LYRASIS
LYRASIS will manage and market the program, seek member input for
evaluation of the program, and prepare recommendations for changes and
enhancements.
VI. Expenses
Participants in this program agree not to charge for the following:
Postage or transportation charges. (Lending libraries will pay
for materials being sent to the borrower; borrowing libraries will pay
for material being returned.)
Fees for handling interlibrary loan requests.
Insurance.
Material loaned through this program.
SO6 (SIXX) Resource Sharing Group Terms of
Membership
Currently, the Terms of Membership in SOLINE, LYRA and No Bucks state
that "participants are encouraged to provide free photocopies," but
providing free photocopies is not a condition of membership in the
SoLINE, LYRA or No Bucks Resource Sharing Groups.
SoLINE, LYRA and No Bucks libraries that wish to agree to provide free
photocopies, reciprocally, to other libraries may join the SO6 group.
A list of all SO6 libraries can be found by searching the OCLC ILL Policies Directory.
Simply search for the group code “SIXX.” This search will display a
list of all participating SO6 libraries.
To be eligible to participate in SO6, a library must be profiled into
LYRA, SoLINE or No Bucks.
The library should also union list or catalog its serials on OCLC. The
library must not place any restricting terms or conditions regarding
photocopying charges. Photocopies must be supplied completely free of
charge to other SO6 members. If a library feels that the benefits of
the arrangement are not satisfactory, they may ask to be removed from
the group.
If your library meets the criteria and would like to participate in
SO6, please contact Jennifer Bielewski at LYRASIS and ask to be included in the SO6 group.
